DORSET BASED ARTS AND CRAFTS THAT GIVE BACK

PURBECK ARTISAN YARD

DISCOVER THIS UNIQUE ARTISAN YARD RUN BY LOCAL ARTISTS, CREATORS, AND MAKERS

The Purbeck Artisan Yard has had many uses over the years

A fire station in the Second World War. A Scout Hall. And more recently, a Builders Yard. The building is full of character, just perfect for over 35 Artisan residents!

How was the Purbeck Artisan Yard formed?

The idea came from James Warren and his wife Becky. James owns the Salt Pig in Wareham, an Urban Farm Shop and Café selling locally sourced produce: fish, veg, cheese, bread, real ales, the list is endless! James and Becky have a passion for supporting local businesses, so creating the Artisan Yard in April 2016 was a perfect opportunity to do this.

A perfect space for artists, creators, and makers

There are 12 bays at the yard each one filled with the work local artists, crafters, producers and up-cyclers; a real variety that all compliment one another. This is very important to James & Becky.

We have a huge area downstairs for workshops, James was very creative with Scaffold Boards and Pallets creating a large table for the artists and makers to run workshops or use it to work on themselves.  We have had a variety of activitIes going on over the years, from pen and ink drawing, making a Tiffany glass suncatcher, a macrame plant hanger and drink & drawing classes.

A THRIVING HUB OF CREATIVITY THANKS TO OUR GUEST ARTISTS

We always like to offer something new to the visitors of the yard and by having guest artists and creators we’re able to do this. It also allows other local artisans to showcase and sell their work alongside our permanent residents. It’s a great opportunity to test the waters to see if you would like to apply for a permanent space with us in the future.

You can apply for a guest artist exhibition space, for one month, usually a wall space for hanging or shelf space.  The resident artisans will be responsible for selling, recording and taking the money for you.

If you are interested in exhibiting at the yard for a month please get in touch via payguestartist@hotmail.com and we will send you an information pack and an application form.
