Stacked plastic chairs 4 is an original painting by Dorset artist Nick Hais.
The advantage of making paintings based on plastic chairs is that any colours can be used. Move in close to a column of stacked chairs and the repetitive shapes and relationships can be read as organic forms. Bathed in strong light with clearly delineated shadows this painting celebrates a balance of colour and tone. A shallow pictorial space results from focusing closely on a small section of a group of six similar stacked plastic chairs. This everyday subject-matter gives an opportunity to use variations of colour and shape for their own sake. What is depicted is not as important as the relationships that result from the combining and repetition of hues, tones, edges and shapes.
