Roy Aplin: My Biog
I am a Wildlife Artist, Specialising in Birds of the World. Swanage born and bred – A True Man of Purbeck!
I am a Carpenter/Joiner by trade, completing a 5 year apprenticeship with a local building firm in Swanage. I have always been interested in the countryside and painted from an early age. Aviculture has been my hobby since the age of 8 and has given me the opportunity to study many birds closely, including private collections.
My paintings are finely detailed in Watercolour/Gouache but also work in Acrylics, Oil and Pencil. My Artwork has been used for book illustrations and calendars and donated for fundraising. In 2018 I donated an original painting in aid of the Swanage Bandstand Appeal.
I am a Member of the Dorset Coppice Group and it was a great honour for me to be introduced to Her Royal Highness, The Princess Anne, when she officually opened the Head Quarters of the Coppice Group at Bonsley Wood.
I exhibit my work every year at the Annual Exhibition of The Wildlife Art Society International which is held at Nature in Art, Gloucester, also Southern Nature Art, the British Birdwatching Fair – Rutland Water, and Purbeck Art Weeks. I also attend other events by invitation.
My artwork has been sold worldwide and I am lucky enough to have visited many wonderful countries,, the last being Pakistan in 2018.
I am completely self-taught. I hope you enjoy viewing a small selection of my work.
