The Creative Gallery
Artist owned and artist staffed
We are an art gallery, artist owned, artist staffed, selling high quality work on behalf of local established and emerging artists. We have strong ties with the Swanage and Purbeck art community.
Based in the delightful, walled Saxon town of Wareham …
The Creative Gallery is in St John’s Hill, near Wareham Quay and St Mary’s Church, just off South Street, in the delightful walled Saxon town of Wareham. A historic location, the Gallery is housed in one of the oldest parts of Wareham – St John’s Hill having formerly been an open area behind the church dedicated to St John, now the small car park. The building which houses the Gallery was originally the cart store, next to the stables, for a hotel in South Street.
A wide range of work by a wide range of artist makers...
The Gallery was first opened in 2005 by Cliff and Graham Towler; painters specialising in wildlife and Jurassic landscape paintings. They also exhibited various ceramics and the stoneware pottery of Fiona Kelly, the latter having taken over the Gallery in early 2013.
Since the change in ownership Fiona has introduced many new artist makers. In addition a monthly guest makers programme commenced to showcase other makers from Dorset and surrounding counties, to add an ever-changing look to the Gallery. Guests display a wide range of work to compliment the residents’ creations – wood, metal, mosaics, ceramics and more.
The Gallery is run as a co-operative, so you will meet one of our artists/makers, who will often be creating their artworks while chatting with customers.
